The brief for this Newlands Alteration was ultimately to create additional space for our Clients and rethink how the house is occupied.

We removed the existing converted garage and entry which was failing and replaced it with a new Garage, Workshop, Laundry and spare Bathroom. A new entry and second living space connects these spaces to the existing house with a dramatic window looking out over Wellington Harbour as its focal point. The second living space was designed to be able to be closed off and utilised as a spare bedroom when guests come to stay.

 

Within the retained section of existing house, the Kitchen and Living spaces were opened up to create a spacious main living space.

Throughout the alteration natural materials and thermal efficiency was prioritised.
